Turn 4 Line

Postby eric-d » Sat Jan 02, 2016 10:38 pm

Interested to hear from those more experienced on this track what is the best line through Hilltop turn 4.

Realizing that the vehicle used makes a difference of course, but looking for some input.

OK Eric, I'll tell you what I teach in a generic way at OTD's......like Dave is suggesting FWD and RWD will have some differences in execution.

This is the safe OTD line, one that if done right will add zero wheels off (since that's the currency we use) and also is much faster than sliding over the hill 8)

Coming up the steep part of the hill be all the way to the Left (but stay off the rumble strips), then before the concrete starts brush the brakes and start turning towards a late (past where you can yet see) apex.
That way you have maximum traction uphill for the fronts to get the car rotating, then after the apex hold off on mashing the throttle until you are sure you can finish turning and hug the Right side of the track on the way down the hill. Look for the tiny dirt patch driver's right and aim for that, and when the suspension is in compression roll onto the gas.
You can get on the throttle slightly earlier while the suspension is compressing in a FWD car, but you want to wait until it's landed in a RWD car so you don't get wheelspin and burn a "4-wheels off" coming down the hill

Hope that helps,

The apex for turn 4 is at the very bottom of the hill. At the inside rumble strips.
