Re: Many sincere thanks ...
Sean did a lot of single speed go-karts in the Lansing area in his teens. He still plays with them from time to time, a semi-regular at Kart-2-Kart, runs open track days at Waterford, Grattan and Gingerman, etc. He has been a force in the local autocross community the last few years with "The Grape"...

Many sincere thanks ...
... for all the hard work and effort so many people put in to make an event like this happen: Steve Steeb, Dick Cole, the grid workers, the tech workers and all the corner personel that made this probably the most enjoyable weekend I have had at a motorsports event in a long time. On behalf of my pa...

Re: Scales?
Aren't the cars weighed after qualifying to avoid guys running light for a better starting grid position ... and then adding ballast later as needed?

Re: Scales?
Can't tonight ... I have an engine to put back together before the weekend starts. A friend of mine bought a 1970 Plymouth Duster for his son who is graduating from the Air Force Academy. The previous owner swapped out the slant six for a 318 V8. I'm installing a pair of 360 heads, an Edelbrock mani...

Scales?
Sorry for all the noobie questions ... but I have another: Will scales be available before Run Group One goes out on course for qualifying on Saturday morning? I have no idea what our car weighs with the additional side door bars and other mods made during the off-season. It would be nice to know ho...

Re: Tech Inspection
Crap ... I can't be at the classroom session until roughly 11:00 AM (grandson's first soccer game of the season that day) ... I could tow "The Banana" #37 Neon for tech inspection then, or any time later that day -or- we plan on being at the OTD on the 29th. Would either one of the above work for ge...

Re: HANS device
Sorry for the duplication ... I now see this topic listed in "General Discussion" thread. Being new guys on the block, we are obviously very interested in the answer for safety requirements in 2012.

HANS device
Per the 2012 SCCA GCR ... 9.3.20 - C2 ... is the HANS device now a "required" driver safety component?

Re: 12/31/2011 Deadline APPROACHING
Suggested adjustments/changes to the current SN rules:
1) the Nitto NT-01 205/55ZR14 should be the "spec" tire.
2) SOHC sedans @ 2,450 lbs.
3) DOHC coupes @ 2,500 lbs.
4) 19mm or 21mm front sway bar allowed

Spec Neon tires?
The 2011 rules and regs says Toyo RA-1's ... but per the Toyo website I don't see that they make any 14" sizes. (The tire of choice in the past seems to have been the Nittos.) Has there been a rules amendment I can't find anywhere via the web? Thanks.

Re: Is Spec Neon dead?
What's your opinion on power steering on a Neon in road racing? The assist on our car is virtually non-existent. I haven't tested it for the cause of the problem yet, but I believe the rack itself is dead (bad rotary valve or rack piston seal or whatever. The pump doesn't make any noise). Should I g...

Re: Is Spec Neon dead?
Thank you all for your input. 8) The car is pretty much ready to go SN as is, or was. I went to move the car last Saturday so I could clean out the garage for my grandson's birthday party when the clutch died. The cage needs to be upgraded and a fresh set of belts added ... and tires. Looking ...

Is Spec Neon dead?
Second question: Would racing a Neon in ITA be like taking a knife to a gun fight? Sean and I have pretty much decided that we are going to come play at Waterford in 2012 with our recently acquired '95 Neon SOHC sedan. What we need to decide is whether to leave the car as is and compete in SN (again...

Re: Maybe next year?
Thanks Greg. I'm not sure about sentences that have both "awfully" and "reasonably" in them. "Normal" seasons? Not so sure you want to share the "abnormal" seasons? On the serious side, I'm well aware of the rules about the costs of auto racing ... the one I use: "Whatever you think it will co...
